Troy, NY -- Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced today that Tyler Valentine, 30, previously of Troy was sentenced in Rensselaer County Court.
Valentine pled guilty to one count of Aggravated Cruelty to animals and was sentenced by Judge Debra Young to forty-five days in the Rensselaer County jail with 5 years post release supervision. Valentine allowed three dogs, four cats, a bearded dragon and a ferret to perish under his care in November 2021.
“These animals relied on the defendant to provide basic care, instead he allowed them to waste away,” said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly.
“I have seen an increase in animal abuse cases in Rensselaer County,” DA Donnelly said, “The DA’s office is pleased to host a training this week at HVCC in order to equip our Rensselaer County Animal Control Officers and Law Enforcements Officers with the knowledge and resources necessary to handle these very complex cases.”
