Troy, NY -- Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced today that Karl Smith, 60, of North Ft. Meyers, Florida was convicted of forcibly raping a 14-year-old child.
Smith, who pled guilty to Rape in the 1st Degree in January, will be required to register as sex offender.
“We are thankful to the victim and The START Center for working to provide the information needed to prosecute Mr. Smith,” said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly. “We appreciate the Troy Police Department who worked on this case for several years and ultimately located and returned Mr. Smith to New York to be prosecuted.”
Smith was sentenced to 15 years in State Prison and 20 years of post-release supervision.
Assistant District Attorney Antonia Edwards prosecuted the case.
