Troy, NY --Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced today that Hector Rodriquez, 35, of Troy was sentenced for his role in a shooting in Corliss Park in April.
Rodriquez was charged with Criminal Possession Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C Violent felony, in violation of Section 265.03, subdivision 3, of the Penal Law of the State of New York.
On April 12, Rodriquez was found in possession of a loaded firearm at the crime scene. Rodriquez was sentenced to 15 years in state prison with 5 years post supervision.
The City of Troy Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office and Rensselear County Probation all collaborate on the GIVE non-fatal shooting grant. The grant is awarded annually to select cities throughout New York State and the District Attorney’s office recently received the additional funding to assist the Troy Police with non-fatal crimes.
“The new GIVE grant funding for non-fatal shootings supports a dedicated team of police, prosecutors and crime analysts that work together to solve non-fatal shooting cases from the point at which they are reported,” said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly. “To gather evidence immediately increases the odds of identifying those responsible.”
Chief Assistant District Attorney Matt Hauf prosecuted the case.
