Troy, NY- Rensselaer County District Mary Pat Donnelly announced the sentencing of Christopher George, age 18 of Troy, NY in connection with the 2021 shooting of Matthew Rivera, and an unrelated indictment for robbery.
Rensselaer County Court Judge Jennifer G. Sober sentenced George to 15 years determinate and 5 years post release supervision for his guilty plea to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a Class C Violent Felony in violation of Penal Law section 265.03(3) in the MJ Rivera case. George was also sentenced for 3 years determinate to run consecutively for Attempted Robbery in the 2nd degree, a Class D Felony in violation of Penal Law 110.160 (1) of the State of New York. The judge denied George’s request for youth offender status.
Assistant District Attorneys Matt Hauf and Cheryl Botts prosecuted the cases.
