Troy, NY --Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced three convictions under the GIVE (Gun Involved Violence Elimination Initiative) program.
Deion Austin, 31, of Troy, pled guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony in violation of Penal Law Section 265.03 (3). Austin possessed a loaded Taurus 9 mm hand gun in the area of 547 2nd Avenue, Troy, on February 25. Austin was sentenced to 6 ½ years and 5 years post release supervision.
Jaheim Gourrier, 21, of Troy pled guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a Class D Violent Felony, in violation of Penal Law Section 110.00/265.03 (3). Gourrier was sentenced to 5 years in state prison and 5 years post release supervision. Gourrier was found in possession of a 40-caliber“ghost gun” after a traffic stop.
Hector Rodriquez, 36, of Troy pled guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Violent Felony, in violation of Penal Law Section 265.03 (3). Rodriquez was sentenced to 15 years in state prison with 5 years post release supervision. Rodriquez was found in possession of a 9mm handgun at Corliss Park in Troy on April 12.
The City of Troy Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office and Rensselear County Probation all collaborate on the GIVE grant. The grant is awarded annually to select cities throughout New York State.
“We appreciate the opportunity to engage in this team effort to remove illegal guns from the streets of Troy,” said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly. “Crimes have been prevented and victims have been spared. We will continue to hold accountable those that choose to engage in illegal firearm activity".
