Troy, NY --Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced today that after a four-day trial, Bryan Wright, 33, of Troy was found guilty of one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third degree, a class B felony, in violation of Section 220.16, subdivision (1), and another count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third degree, a class B felony, in violation of Section 220.16, subdivision (12) of the Penal Law of the State of New York.
Wright was arrested as the result of a Parole GIVE detail on November 9, 2021 in the City of Troy by a Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigator and a New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) Parole Officer. Wright was found in possession of over a half-ounce of cocaine and almost $3,000 in currency.
The City of Troy Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office, the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office and the Rensselear County Probation all collaborate on the GIVE grant. The grant is awarded annually to select cities throughout New York State.
The District Attorney’s office currently has 47 open GIVE cases, including 4 in 2023. The District Attorney’s office has prosecuted over 250 GIVE cases since 2019.
“Rensselaer County will not be a gateway for drug activity. We will continue to prosecute drug cases to keep our streets safe,” said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly. “Keeping dangerous drugs off the streets is a priority for our office.”
Wright will be sentenced on April 27th Wright faces up to 15 years due to a prior violent felony conviction.
Assistant District Attorney Spencer Lane prosecuted the case.
