The Rensselaer County Office for the Aging has started the distribution of Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program Coupons to eligible seniors within Rensselaer County.

Each eligible senior will receive a coupon booklet worth $20 each to be used to purchase locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets. To be eligible, participants must be 60 years or older and meet income requirements. Eligible participants must have a monthly gross income that does not exceed $1,926 for a single-person household or $2,607 for a two-person household.

County Executive Steve McLaughlin stated, “We are proud to once again support the seniors in Rensselaer County with obtaining healthy fruits and vegetables while also supporting our local farmers.”

The coupon booklets are issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Markets and administered by the New York State Office for the Aging and locally through the Rensselaer County Office for the Aging.
