Rensselaer County Renews Request for Test Kits
Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin has renewed a request for the state to provide test kits to the county to help battle the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.
To date, the county has only received 100 test kits from the state. The lack of test kits hurts efforts to set up a test site in the county.
“We need test kits so we can get our people tested right here in their own county. Rensselaer County deserves more than just 100 test kits,” said McLaughlin.
“More testing will help identify those in need of treatment without unnecessary delay and hopefully helps us beat back COVID-19 earlier,” added McLaughlin.
Neighboring counties have received substantially more test kits and have been able to set up test sites in their counties. Maintaining those sites and expanding test sites into underserved counties like Rensselaer County will allow for more access to testing in the region.
“We would like to see more people tested, and more cases resolved earlier. Our residents have been asking to be tested, and for two weeks, there were not a sufficient number of test kits.
“Testing is needed, and we need test kits. We hope our request is successful,” added McLaughlin.
