Troy, NY –Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced today she will take part in
National Prescription Take Back Day on Saturday, April 24 at the Walgreens, 614 Columbia Turnpike, East
Greenbush, NY.

“We have seen opioid deaths on the rise, and it is our responsibility to dispose of our prescription drugs
properly. On Saturday, Walgreens will make it easy to drop off your prescription drugs to be placed into a lock
box to be destroyed,” said District Attorney, Mary Pat Donnelly. “Bring your unused or expired medications to
the collection site for safe disposal.”

“Rensselaer County has seen an uptick in opioid overdoses in the past year, many that may have been avoided
had these unused prescription drugs been disposed of properly,” said Donnelly, “the sites will adhere to all
COVID-19 guidelines, so please stop at the Walgreens this Saturday from 10-2 pm or another local county
collection to dispose of these unused drugs. In addition, the Sheriff’s Department will be available to issue
SAFE ID cards for children. Officials from the Schodack Police Department and the East Greenbush Fire
Department will also be on hand.”
