Troy, NY — Daquan Parker, age 21 of Schenectady, NY, was sentenced today in Rensselaer County Court by the Honorable Jennifer G. Sober. On October 14, 2020 the defendant pled guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree in violation of New York State Penal Law Section 125.20(4) for his role in the death of three year old Mayjor Douglas.

At the time of his plea, Daquan Parker admitted that he shook, struck and kicked the three year old in resulting in massive internal injuries and bleeding. Mayjor Douglas died as a result of the injuries incurred at the hands of Daquan Parker. On December 9, 2020, the defendant appeared virtually in Rensselaer County Court and reaffirmed his actions toward Mayjor Douglas. As a result Parker received a sentence of 14 years in state prison to be followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. In addition, Parker has already served one year in the Rensselaer County Jail during the pendency of this matter.

The Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the Troy Police Department as well as the New York State Police Special Investigation Unit for their diligent and tireless work in ensuring this outcome.

“Anytime a crime involves a victim there are added levels of difficulty and emotion, not only for the family of that victim but also for the men and women that investigate and prosecute those crimes. That is compounded when the crime victim is a child and is exponentially increased when the committed crime results in the death of anyone, especially when a child is ripped from their family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mayjor Douglas’ family and hope that the resolution of this case brings them some peace knowing that the person who killed their family member will spend time in prison reflecting on his actions,” says Chief Assistant District Attorney Matthew Hauf.
