County DMV Closed: An executive order issued by the Governor temporarily closes operations of Department of Motor Vehicles offices across the state, including the DMV office in Troy operated by County Clerk Frank Merola. The shutdown is effective immediately.

DMV satellite offices operated by County Clerk Merola in Hoosick Falls, Schodack and East Greenbush had already suspended operations.Other functions offered by County Clerk Merola, including property transactions, are open but require an appointment. To make an appointment, please call 518-270-4080.


In response to the COVID crisis that has forced the closing of the Rensselaer County record room, County Clerk Frank J. Merola is waiving the 10.00 internet search fee effective immediately.  This waiver  will last for the duration of the crisis.  People may now search www.searchiqs.com at no charge although print costs still apply.

Interested parties will go to the Rensselaer County site and apply as a daily, 24 hour user to receive a user id and password.  Once established, users will need to login daily.  Please contact the Rensselaer County Clerk’s office at 270-4080 with any questions.

Frank Merola – County ClerkMerola

The Records Room Department of the Rensselaer County Clerk’s office is the main recording center for deeds, mortgages and other land records in Rensselaer County. The Records Room is also the main office for passports, pistol permits and amendments. The Records Room is the central recording office for most court records including mechanics liens, judgments, foreclosures, Supreme and County court cases, divorces, veterans’ discharges and other miscellaneous documents. The record room is also the central registry for all Rensselaer County Notary Publics and Commissioners of Deeds. The Records Room is open from 8:30am-5:00pm every weekday except Thursdays when the hours are 8:30am-7:00pm. Effective September 1st 2019 the County Clerk’s Office will no longer be staying open until 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays.
Hours of operation will be 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. 

The Department of Motor Vehicles provides original and renewal vehicle registrations, driver’s licenses and learner permits. DMV is responsible for issuing conditional and restricted licenses of rental vehicles, livery, ambulances and buses. DMV provides non-drivers license identification cards as well as being a sponsor of the “Moto Voter” program. DMV is open from 8:30am-4:15pm every weekday except for Thursdays when the hours are 10:00am-6:00pm.

DMV operates three satellite offices for public convenience. These satellite offices do not offer the services of EDL, REAL ID, RESTRICTED OR CONDITIONAL LICENSES. The East Greenbush DMV satellite office is open on Mondays from 9:00am-3:00pm at the East Greenbush Town Hall at 225 Columbia Turnpike. The Schodack DMV satellite office is open on Tuesdays from 9:00am-3:00pm at the Schodack Town Hall at 1777 Columbia Turnpike. The Hoosick Falls DMV satellite office is open on Wednesdays from 10:00am-2:00pm at the John J. Murphy Senior Center.
