RENSSELAER COUNTY CONSTRUCTING NEW VETERAN MEMORIAL PLAZA

RENSSELAER COUNTY CONSTRUCTING NEW VETERAN MEMORIAL PLAZA AT NEW COUNTY OFFICES IN EAST GREENBUSH, COUNTY EXECUTIVE STEVE MCLAUGHLIN AND LEGISLATORS ANNOUNCE

Rensselaer County has started construction on a new Veterans Memorial Plaza to recognize the enormous service and sacrifice of veterans and their families during the history of the country and county, County Executive Steve McLaughlin announced.

The new Rensselaer County Veterans Memorial Plaza will be constructed on one of the highest visibility roads in the county, in front of the new county offices at 99 Troy Road in East Greenbush, county officials noted.

“From the start of our nation, Rensselaer County residents have answered the call to duty and fought for freedom and to defend the safety and security of our nation. Many of those who served did not return home, while thankfully, many veterans are still with us today,” said McLaughlin.

“This new Veterans Memorial Plaza will show that Rensselaer County will never forget the service and sacrifice of our veterans and their families. We owe our veterans an enormous debt of gratitude, and this will be one small way to show our appreciation and respect,” added McLaughlin.

Work has been underway on the new Veterans Memorial Plaza over the past several weeks. The Veteran Memorial Park will be positioned prominently on the 99 Troy Road property and be tree-lined with several flagpoles for different branches of the armed services, benches and other features.

“The fact that the Veteran Memorial Plaza is so prominently featured shows the respect and honor our county has for our veterans and their families. This Plaza will be part of county government for generations and ensure the contributions of our veterans are foremost in the thoughts of everyone as they enter the county office complex,” said County Veteran Service Agency Director Kevin Miller.

The new county offices at 99 Troy Road are part of the Reimagine Rensselaer County Facilities project to modernize and improve county offices and facilities. The eventual development of a Veteran Memorial Plaza was a catalyst for the purchase of the 99 Troy Road property, McLaughlin noted. The county opened offices at 99 Troy Road in December 2022.

“This tribute to our veterans will be a beautiful addition to our county office building. It will be a wonderful spot to reflect on the service and sacrifice of our veterans and will be a fitting location to raise our American Flag after our monthly Honor a Deceased Veteran program” Vice Chair of the Legislature Bob Loveridge.

“I am proud to see the construction of the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza underway. It will stand as a great tribute to our veterans for generations to come,” Legislator Wayne Gendron-District 4 (Sand Lake, Schodack and Nassau).

A ceremony for the completion of the Veteran Memorial Plaza will be held as the project progresses to completion, county officials announced.
