O’NEILL SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS FOR RAPE

Troy, NY -- Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced that Tyrell O’Neill, 25, of Troy was sentenced today to 25 years in prison and 10 years post-release supervision.

O’Neill was found guilty after a jury trial on June 9, 2022 of one count of Rape in the First Degree, a class B violent felony, in violation of Section 130.35 subdivision (1), one count of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, a class B felony, in violation of Section 130.50 subdivision (1), one count of Unlawful Imprisonment in the First Degree, a class E felony in violation of section 135.10 (1), two counts of Strangulation in the Second Degree, a class D felony, in violation of Section 121.12 subdivision (1) of the Penal Law of the State of New York.

The incident occurred in the City of Troy where O’Neill forced himself on his victim, without her consent. The victim testified O’Neill applied pressure to her throat and neck, causing her to lose consciousness.

“Tyrrell O’Neill is a violent criminal. I commend the victim for her bravery and willingness to stand up in court to tell her story,” said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly.

Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Botts prosecuted the case.
