ALBANY MAN TAKES PLEA FOR SHOOTING AT TROY POLICE
Troy, NY -- Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced today that Michael L. Broadie, 41, of Albany, plead guilty to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class B violent felony, for an incident where he shot at members of the Troy Police Department.
On December 2, 2024, Troy Police responded to a civilian complaint for a male suspect, Michael Broadie, who flashed a handgun at the civilian in the area of 10th Street and Jacob Street. Troy Police and K9 Partner Oates approached Broadie, identified themselves as the Troy Police, and gave commands to stop. Broadie ignored the commands and fled the location toward River Street. Broadie then fired a Taurus .22 caliber pistol at officers, who then returned fire. Broadie was detained on scene and the firearm was recovered. This marks Broadie’s third felony conviction involving an illegal firearm.
“Michael Broadie now faces significant prison time for this attack on Troy Police officers,” said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly. “I admire their bravery as they continue to protect our citizens in the wake of this life-threatening violence.”
Broadie, a persistent felon, will be sentenced on May 13, 2026 and is expected to receive 25 years in state prison and 5 years of post-release supervision.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Spencer Lane and Assistant District Attorney Antonia Lane prosecuted the case for the District Attorney’s Office.
