STATE OF THE COUNTY FOR 2026 WILL SHOWCASE PROGRESS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN RENSSELAER COUNTY, WHILE GEARING UP FOR FUTURE SUCCESS, SAYS COUNTY EXECUTIVE STEVE MCLAUGHLIN

County Executive Press Releases Posted on March 02, 2026

SOTC WILL BE DELIVERED ON MARCH 11 AT EAST GREENBUSH-RENSSELAER SENIOR CENTER TO HIGHLIGHT COMPLETION OF MAJOR PROJECTS

Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin will deliver the annual State of the County address on Wednesday, March 11, providing updates on important events and issues in the county during 2026 and beyond.

The 2026 SOTC will also make history of sorts, as the address will be delivered at the county’s East Greenbush – Rensselaer Senior Center, opened in late 2024. The new senior center is state-of-the-art, with updated technology, improved access, exercise areas and expanded meeting rooms and kitchens.

The senior center project was part of the landmark Reimagine Rensselaer County Facilities project, which included establishment of new county offices at 99 Troy Road in East Greenbush, renovation and modernization of existing county offices at 1600 7th Avenue in Troy to locate social services offices from rented space, renovation of an adjacent county space to move the Probation Department from rented space, opening of four new county senior centers and work to build three new satellite garage spaces, new Board of Elections space and other work.

As the major improvement work has gone on, the county has reduced the county property tax rate eight consecutive years by a total of 49.1 percent and paved the entire county road network of 330 miles.

“This State of the County address will be a way to recognize the enormous progress that has been made to improve the operation and efficiency of county government to better serve those who live and work in Rensselaer County,” said McLaughlin.

“The work to make our county more modern and responsive has taken place as Rensselaer County has become recognized as a statewide leader in reducing county property taxes and improving needed county services,” added McLaughlin.

“Just as we can look back on important and significant achievements, we can also look ahead to work still to be done and issues and priorities that remain as we work to transform our county. Our county is poised for unprecedented success and we cannot wait to get started and reach new heights,” he continued.

The State of the County will be delivered on March 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the East Greenbush-Rensselaer Senior Center, which is located at 6 Ridge Road in East Greenbush.
