RENSSELAER COUNTY DMV- TROY OFFICE TO CLOSE FOR RENOVATIONS EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 2, 2023

Rensselaer County Clerk Frank J. Merola is informing county residents that the Rensselaer County DMV located in Troy will be closing for renovations effective Monday, October 2, 2023.  This closure is part of a multi stage renovation of the County offices located at 1600 Seventh Avenue in Troy.  The DMV is anticipated reopening for the public in early 2024.

“I have been pushing for renovation of the Troy DMV for the past five years.  Quite frankly, the Troy DMV has become outdated and this renovation will modernize the DMV which will allow us to update equipment and space usage, and to maximize our already excellent customer service.”

County residents will be able to access the second full service County DMV located at the County Office Building located at 99 Troy Road East Greenbush NY during renovations,  or the Hoosick Falls Satellite DMV located at the Murphy Senior center every Wednesday from 10:00 -2:00.  Residents are also encouraged to mail non-essential transactions to Rensselaer County DMV, 99 Troy Road East Greenbush, NY 12061 during this time.

“While I am sorry for any potential disruption caused by the Troy closure, the long-term benefits to residents far outweigh the short-term inconvenience.”  Mr. Merola said, “By modernizing and renovating this space, the Troy DMV will be coming back bigger and better than ever in 2024.”

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) provides original and renewal vehicle registrations, driver's licenses and learner permits. DMV is responsible for issuing conditional and restricted licenses of rental vehicles, livery, ambulances and buses. DMV provides non-drivers license identification cards as well as being a sponsor of the "Moto Voter" program.

DMV Offices

DMV operates two (2) full service offices in the County for public convenience.  The offices are located at 1600 7th Avenue Troy, NY 12180 and 99 Troy Road East Greenbush NY 12061.  Hours of operation are 8:30am -4:00pm Monday –Friday.

In addition, DMV operates a Satellite office in Hoosick Falls.

  • The Hoosick Falls DMV satellite office is open on Wednesdays from 10 am to 2 pm at the John J. Murphy Senior Center
