County of Rensselaer Launches Fraud Alert to Notify Property Owners of New Transactions

The Rensselaer County Clerk is providing a free new tool to help property owners protect one of their most valuable assets. With Fraud Alert, you can sign up to receive alerts whenever a document, such as a deed or mortgage, is recorded under your name. Documents can be viewed online or at the Clerk’s Office.

“This is an easy way for homeowners to have peace of mind,” said County Clerk, Frank Merola.

Get email alerts when a document is recorded in your name at the County Clerk’s Office.

Please note there may be other property owners in the town that share the same name.

The Rensselaer County Clerk's office is now accepting credit/debit cards as a means of payment for all land/court transactions.  Those choosing to pay by card will be subject to a credit card fee.  Fee rates are posted at the front counter.

Passport application fees to the US Department of State must be paid by check or money order.

Records Room

The Records Room Department of the Rensselaer County Clerk's office is the main recording center for deeds, mortgages and other land records in Rensselaer County. The Records Room is also the main office for passports, pistol permits and amendments, and is the central registry for all Rensselaer County Notary Publics and Commissioners of Deeds.

Passport services are by appointment only.  Passports are done daily from 11-2 but you must call to set up an appointment.  Please call (518) 270-4080 to make an appointment.

The Records Room is the central recording office for most court records including:

  • Divorces
  • Foreclosures
  • Judgments
  • Mechanics liens
  • Supreme and County court cases
  • Veterans' discharges
  • Other miscellaneous documents
