July 30, 2007 Dear Physicians, The purpose of this letter is to inform you that as of July 1, 2007 the Wadsworth Center will no longer accept routine samples for pertussis testing. Molecular testing for pertussis is now available at several New York State permitted commercial laboratories see link. Samaritan hospital laboratory is also accepting samples for pertussis that is then submitted to LabCorp. Providers who are going to use Samaritan laboratory for testing must obtain supplies from the laboratory directly. The contact information for Samaritan reference laboratory is (518) 271-3225. Please be aware that pertussis testing (both PCR and culture) is still available at the Wadsworth Center for certain situations including problematic cases, outbreak assistance and in any circumstance where reference level public health laboratory services are required.
