Gumbs pled guilty to the robbery of DeMeo’s Discount Wine & Liquor in Troy. The defendant entered the store just before it was set to close at 9:00pm on February 27, 2016. After shopping around for a few minutes, the defendant pulled out a gun and held it to the owner’s head, demanding money. The defendant made off with approximately $6,000.00 during the robbery. Gumbs was apprehended by members of the Troy Police Department on March 9, 2016.
As a result of the plea, the defendant will be sentenced to fifteen (15) years in state prison and five (5) years post release supervision. The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on October 20, 2016, at the Rensselaer County Courthouse, by the Honorable Andrew G. Ceresia.
Abelove said, “This violent felon belongs in prison. Today’s plea ensures that he remains there for a long time. We’re thankful that the victims were not harmed physically, as this could have been much worse.”
