Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove announced today that Severo O. Vega Jr., age 48, was sentenced to twelve (12) years in state prison and eight (8) years post release supervision, before Honorable Debra J. Young in Rensselaer County Court. As a part of his plea agreement, the defendant will have to abide by a full stay away order of protection from the victim, as well as having to register as a sex offender.
On August 22, 2016, Vega pled guilty to one (1) count of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance as a Sexually Motivated Felony, a class C Felony. The defendant admitted to a June 2015 incident, where he induced his victim, age 15, to engage in a sexual performance while he took photos.
Abelove said, “This defendant’s actions are vile and reprehensible. The Court’s lengthy prison sentence reflects the severity with which such conduct is deservedly treated. My office will continue to vigorously prosecute sexual offenders who prey on children.”
Assistant District Attorneys Alain M. Finan & Adam Alvarez prosecuted the case.
