Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove announced today that Tammy Green., age 45, was sentenced to two and a third (2 1/3) to seven (7) years in state prison, before Honorable Andrew G. Ceresia in Rensselaer County Court.

On August 17, 2016, Green pled guilty to one (1) count of Arson in the Third Degree, a class C felony and one (1) count of Cruelty to Animals, a misdemeanor. The defendant admitted to a February 2016 incident, where she intentionally set fire to her sister’s house in the Village of Castleton. The house fire resulted in injuries to two firefighters, as well as the deaths of her sister’s dog and three cats.

Abelove said, “This defendant caused tremendous damage and endangered others. Her callous and wanton actions took the lives of three innocent animals and injured two first responders. Thankfully, no one else was killed.”

Assistant District Attorney Gabriel Garcia prosecuted the case.
