Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove announced today that Severo O. Vega Jr., age 48, pled guilty today in Rensselaer County Court to one (1) count of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance as a Sexually Motivated Felony, a class C Felony.

Vega pled guilty to a charge that stems from an incident in June of 2015. The defendant admitted to inducing his victim, age 15, to engage in a sexual performance while he took photos. As a result of the plea, the defendant will be sentenced to twelve (12) years in state prison and eight (8) years post release supervision. As a part of his plea agreement, the defendant will have to abide by a full stay away order of protection from the victim, as well as having to register as a sex offender. The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on September 13, 2016, at the Rensselaer County Courthouse, by the Honorable Debra J. Young.

Abelove said, “My office is committed to prosecuting predators who take advantage of children. The vile acts of this defendant warrant the lengthy prison term he will receive.”

Assistant District Attorney Alaina M. Finan prosecuted the case.
