Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove announced that on Friday, July 28, 2017, Donald J. Gilbert, age 47, pled guilty to one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D felony, in satisfaction of a four (4) count indictment.
Gilbert was charged in an indictment with numerous offenses after he stole a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado truck on January 7, 2017 from a residence in the Town of East Greenbush. Gilbert than proceeded to lead members of the New York State Police on a high-speed chase at a speed in excess of one hundred (100) miles an hour, before being apprehended.
As a result of the plea, the defendant will be sentenced to three (3) to six (6) years in state prison. The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on August 25, 2017, at the Rensselaer County Courthouse before the Honorable Debra J. Young.
Abelove said, “This defendant stole a car and endangered the lives of police and civilians by leading police on a high speed chase through a busy city. His guilty plea ensures that he is off our streets, where he belongs.”
