Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove announced that Alexander Luciano, age 34, was sentenced yesterday by Hon. Debra J. Young to eight (8) years in state prison followed by three (3) years of post-release supervision for his conviction of two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, both C felonies. These sentences will run concurrently. Luciano was convicted on June 3, 2016, following a 3 day Jury Trial of these felonies, as well as three misdemeanors and a violation.

In the morning hours of April 24, 2015, members of the Troy Police Department and Rensselaer Police Department executed a search warrant at the defendant’s residence. Inside, detectives located 6.27 grams of heroin, 3.8 grams of MDMA, and a large marijuana grow, as well as $12,270.00 in cash and other drug related paraphernalia.

“Mr. Luciano will return to state prison for the third time, convicted of a controlled substance felony, but for the first time will have a sentence that reflects his continuous criminal behavior. In a time when this community is gripped by a heroin epidemic, this defendant refused numerous attempts at treatment and continued to deny culpability, despite taking the witness stand in his own defense and admitting to possessing the heroin.”

Assistant District Attorney Carl Rosenkranz prosecuted the case.
