Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove announced today that Jose O. Marquez., age 37, was sentenced by Honorable Andrew G. Ceresia in Rensselaer County Court for his guilty plea to one (1) count of Strangulation in the Second Degree, a class D violent felony. Marquez was sentenced to three (3) years in state prison followed by five (5) years post-release supervision.
On February 28, 2015, Marquez assaulted his girlfriend during a domestic incident at her residence in Griswold Heights Apartments in the City of Troy. He was taken into custody a short time later by the Troy Police Department and remanded to Rensselaer County Jail.
Abelove said, “Domestic violence is serious and this defendant’s actions put his victim’s life at risk. The Court rightfully sentenced Mr. Marquez to state prison for his violent crime.”
Assistant District Attorney Alaina Finan prosecuted the case.
