Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove announced today that Kenneth Leigh, age 46, was convicted by a jury of Burglary in the Second Degree, a class C violent felony offense. The verdict came today following a week-long trial in Rensselaer County Court.

The jury found that the defendant, on March 31, 2015, at approximately 12:30pm, entered a residence at 950 State Route 9, Apartment B, in the Town of Schodack to commit a burglary. The defendant entered said residence along with accomplices, who held the victim down in her apartment while stealing $1,300.00 in cash, as well as some other items. Leigh was arrested by members of the New York State Police on April 3, 2015.

As a predicate felon, Leigh is facing up to fifteen (15) years in State Prison. The defendant will be sentenced on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the Rensselaer County Courthouse before the Honorable Andrew G. Ceresia.

Abelove said, “This violent defendant has been brought to justice by a Rensselaer County jury. My office will seek the maximum punishment under the law for his actions.”
