Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove announced today that Anton C. Gumbs, age 35, was arraigned in Rensselaer County Court on a four count indictment. Gumbs was charged with two (2) counts of Robbery in the First Degree, both class B felonies, one (1) count of Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, a class B felony, and one (1) count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D felony; for the armed robbery of DeMeo’s Wine and Liquor store in Troy.

It is alleged that Gumbs entered DeMeo’s just before the store was set to close at 9:00pm on February 27, 2016. After shopping around for a few minutes, the defendant pulled out a gun and held it to the owner’s head, demanding money. The defendant made off with approximately $6,000.00 during the robbery. Gumbs was apprehended by members of the Troy Police Department on March 9, 2016.

Abelove said, “Thanks to the diligent efforts of the Troy Police, this defendant has been arrested, and now indicted by a grand jury. My office will continue to pursue this case to seek justice for the victim.”

All defendants are deemed innocent unless and until convicted in court.
