Troy-Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino has announced that the Youth Summit Conference aimed at educating the youths of our community to the potentially deadly consequences of drugs and alcohol will take place on Tuesday, April 3rd and be held at the Hilton Garden Inn located at 235 Hoosick Street in Troy between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon.
“Our efforts to prevent drug and alcohol use are a year round fight to help our young people make the right choices for their future,” said Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino. “What makes the Youth Summit so important is that it harnesses positive peer pressure by teaching these kids ways to reach their peers and convince them that drinking and using drugs is never safe, appropriate, or acceptable.”
Rensselaer County, through its Underage Drinking Coalition, hosts two Youth Summits a year. The program provides a number of local schools an opportunity to highlight their efforts and projects to reinforce to their peers as well as other members of the community about the consequences of underage alcohol use. Students from all Rensselaer County schools are invited to present the efforts they undertook in their communities to prevent their fellow students from drinking alcohol or using drugs.
“Rensselaer County is committed to preventing the tragedies that all too often occur when the youth of our communities use drugs or alcohol and I know our collective efforts are making a difference,” concluded Jimino.
