The Art of Childhood, selected works from the RCHS Portrait Collection. RCHS has a wonderful collection of portraits of children dating back almost two centuries. This exhibit will bring many of them out of storage and place them together for the first time allowing the viewer to see both individual faces and the changing face of childhood through time. “A Valuable Resource” Growing Up in Rensselaer County
This exhibit examines the evolution of the concept of childhood as seen in objects, images, and ephemera that document this important stage of life from infancy to teenage years. Using collections that span 200 years of Rensselaer County’s children’s lives, the exhibit will provide perspectives on the role of education and play, rites of passage and the evolving change in the very definition and status of children in our society.  Grimm Gallery
