In 2013, the world lost a bright light. Dustin was kind hearted, happy and a joy to be around. He was full of positive energy and always encouraging others. Proof that anyone can be lost to suicide in an instant. We still believe that advocating for suicide prevention programs that help erase the stigma of depression and making proper mental health care more easily available, lives can be saved. In five years of searching for programs in NY’s Capital Region that offer support and assistance for those struggling with these issues, it has become painfully apparent that these programs are few and far between compared to the need proven by the increasing rates of suicide. The 5th Annual Dustin Mele Memorial Concert is Saturday, March 10, 2018, 6:00pm at Brown’s Revolution Hall (425 River St.) Troy, NY. All are encouraged to attend and enjoy the area’s finest bands, 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction. $20 minimum suggested donation at the door. Bands: Soul Sky Super 400 Emerald City with special guests The BURNERS UK original lineup reunion! Proceeds benefit: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), & Rensselaer Co. Mental Health Intervention Services; all in memory of Dustin. This year’s concert will feature 50/50 Raffle & Chinese Auction. Proceeds from the auction and raffle will benefit a cancer recovery fund for Dustin’s cousin David Mele. Past annual concerts have been credited as top musical events of the year in the Troy Record and drew more than 2,200 people including Congressman Paul Tonko and Troy city officials. The concerts raised $24,500 to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) suicide awareness and prevention programs which in turn named The Dustin Mele Memorial Concert one of its top fundraising teams in Upstate NY, two years in a row. Dustin’s friends and family believe that with erasing the stigma of depression and making proper mental health care more easily available, lives can be saved. AFSP has been able to bring this awareness and lobby on their behalf. Suicide is at epidemic proportions and touches more and more lives and families every day. On behalf of Dustin’s family and friends; as well as each years benefiting organizations; THANK YOU for your support!
