General Election – NOVEMBER 8, 2016 from 6 am to 9 pm


In this presidential election year, we are holding two days of local registration which will be conducted on the following dates and times:

Thursday, October 13 from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Saturday, October 15 from 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Local registration will be at the following three designated locations:

Rensselaer County Board of Elections, 1600 7th Ave, Troy, NY 12180
Schaghticoke Town Hall, 290 Northline Drive, Melrose, NY 12121
Ed Swartz Southern Tier Senior Center, 1800 E Schodack Rd, Castleton, NY 12033

PLEASE NOTE: October 15th is the LAST day to register.


The Board of Elections will be open extended hours on the following dates for absentee voting:

Tuesday, October 25 from 9:00 am – 7:00pm
Thursday, October 27 from 9:00 am – 7:00pm
Tuesday, November 1 from 9:00 am – 7:00pm
Thursday, November 3 from 9:00 am – 7:00pm
Saturday, November 5 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

The objective of the Board of Elections is to insure that all qualified voters have the opportunity to exercise his/her right to vote in all elections held in Rensselaer County.

The Rensselaer County Board of Elections is comprised of two commissioners, each representing one of the two major political parties, and a full time staff of equal representation. The New York State Election Law mandates the Board’s responsibility of elections and related requirements. The Rensselaer County Board of Elections is responsible for all Federal, State, City and Town elections in Rensselaer County. Under present law, village and school district elections as well as fire, water, and other special district elections, do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Board of Elections. We try hard to provide the most accurate information we are able.

Voter registration data in various forms and media is available to both the general public and candidates interested in running for an elected office. Interested parties should call the Board of Elections for further information and prices.
