Voter Registration

In general, in order to register and vote a person must:

  • Be a US Citizen
  • Be 18 years old by the date of the election in which you want to vote
  • A resident of Rensselaer County for at least 25 days preceding the election
  • Not be in prison or on parole following conviction for a felony
  • Not claim the right to vote elsewhere

If you haven’t already registered to vote, please take a few minutes to register. If you have access to a printer, you may download a registration form. Print it out, fill it in, then mail the completed form to us or deliver in person at this address:

You may contact the Rensselaer County Board of Elections (518-270-2990) to request a NYS Voter Registration Form. In addition, most state agency offices, your town/city clerks office and post offices can supply you with a registration form.

If you are not a Rensselaer County resident, you can find out where to mail your form by calling 1-800-FOR-VOTE (1-800-367-8683). If you use a TDD, please call 1-800-533-8683.
